November 2020: News, Updates, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers

Letter from the Executive Director

Dear CASA Volunteers,

Happy November! It is hard to believe the end of the year is here. It has been a tough one for everyone, no matter your situation. However, the month of November is a good time to remember that many of us have much to be thankful for. I am certainly thankful for the hundreds of volunteers, donors, board members, staff and community partners who have proved invaluable to CASA as we continue fulfilling our mission in this challenging time.

You've probably seen the news that El Paso County has moved to the Orange High Risk level for COVID. Our building was already operating at 25% capacity, so this does not require much change here at the CASA office. The only change we are making at this time is the process for Hanger donations. Effective now, donations are accepted between 11 and 2 on Mondays only.

We would also like to request that CASA volunteers only come into the office when absolutely necessary. We understand sometimes it is necessary, but please make an appointment with your case supervisor or volunteer coordinator ahead of time. You can also check this webpage for COVID-related updates.

CASA continues to recruit new advocates, so if you know anyone who would make a great advocate - be sure to let them know about our Dec. 2 and Jan. 11 info sessions. More information is available on those events here.

Thank you for everything you do for children in this community! I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving and as always, please do not hesitate to reach out of you need me! My email is angelar@casappr.org.

Warmly,

Angela

Inclusion Corner: CASA publishes Diversity & Inclusion Statement

CASA of the Pikes Peak Region is committed to upholding the ideals of diversity and inclusion in everything we do. Our Intersectionality and Shared Values (ISV) Committee has been working hard on an inclusion statement that reflects our values, and we're pleased to say that the statement is now on our new Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion webpage which is now published but still a work in progress.

Don't let self-care take a backseat

As a CASA volunteer, you are called to serve others. We couldn't be more grateful for your service to our community's children, but please don't let self-care take a backseat! When stress hits, taking good care of yourself is a powerful tool. Read some suggestions from CASA staff on some fun and unique ways to practice self-care!
