November 2021: News, Updates, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers

Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Wonderful CASA Volunteers,

Happy November! In this season of gratitude, I want you to know how grateful I am for each and every one of you.

The past year-and-a-half have not been easy for any of us; yet you have continued to show up and stand up for the most vulnerable kids in our community. We are excited to share with you the impact you have had at our next Annual CASA-wide Volunteer Impact Event this coming February. (Read more about this event in the event calendar below.)

Something else to be grateful for is the overwhelming success of our Light of Hope North fundraising event, which brought in over $90,000 for CASA programs last month. This event was held almost immediately after our Light of Hope Teller event which raised more than $20,000.

Support for CASA is clearly quite strong in the Pikes Peak Region, also evidenced by our consistently full volunteer training classes. If you know someone who would like to be included in an upcoming training class, please make sure they know about our next Volunteer Information Session on Dec. 7.

I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with loved ones.

Please reach out to me any time at angelar@casappr.org with questions, concerns, or comments.

Warmly,

Angela

How Someday became Today for CASA Volunteer Steve South

Several years ago, while Steve South and his wife waited for their movie to start, an ad popped to recruit new CASA volunteers. Steve put CASA in the back of his mind as something he’d do one day... but one day came sooner than he thought.

Diversity University in 2022!

CASA volunteers are invited to join Senior Judge Regina Walter, Dr. Regina Lewis, and others for Diversity University. Two sessions are available  (Jan. 27-28 OR Feb. 17-18) and training will be daily over zoom from 8:30 – 4:30 with a 30 minute lunch break. The purpose is to improve the ability of professionals to respond to the needs of a culturally diverse population and improve outcomes for youth. Over the course of two days, participants will address implicit and explicit bias, privilege, microaggressions, poverty, power, racism, abelism, homophobia, and other topics.

CASA has certificates for free Skate City admissions and rentals for kids 18 and under during regular 2 hour public sessions at any of the six Colorado locations (2 in Colo. Springs & 4 in Denver).
