March 2022: News, Updates, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers

Letter from the Executive Director

Dear CASA Volunteers,

Happy March! Springtime is always busy at CASA, meaning there are lots of dates to add to your calendars!

Specifically, we would love to invite you to attend or host a table at our Light of Hope breakfast event on April 6th. You can also invite the men in your lives to our next "Dudes & Brews" male volunteer info hour on March 29th, and make plans to attend one of five volunteer appreciation gatherings in April. More information on these events and many others can be found in the event calendar below.

As always, thank you for all that you do and please reach out at angelar@casappr.org with questions, concerns, or comments.

Warmly,

Angela

CO license plates to support CASA

Colorado CASA and the network of 18 local programs throughout the state are collecting signatures in favor of a group special license plate to promote awareness and to aid in recruitment and retention of CASA volunteers in Colorado.

CASA Volunteer Anniversaries

Karen Hilborn is celebrating 30 YEARS as a CASA volunteer this month. Not only has she been a superstar advocate, but you also might know her for her management of the Kid's Closet, Santa's Shop, Bunny Shop, and the list could go on. Thank you, Karen, from the bottom of our hearts.

Inclusion Corner: Inclusion of the growing refugee population

So many families have been driven from their homes because of war or persecution and have little hope of returning home and even fewer chances of thriving in new communities even with languages that sometimes are not common to them. This month's inclusion corner article is about inclusion of our growing refugee population.

Time to think about summer camp!

Registration for overnight and summer camps have opened or will open soon! If you have a youth who would like to attend camp, please apply for MFCF funding and receive approval before registering for camps. CASA partners with YMCA Camps Shady Brook and Jackson, as well as Eagle Lake Camp to cover the full overnight camp cost. Please contact jillc@casappr.org with any questions.

Job openings at CASA!

Want to spend even more time around your favorite CASA staffer? CASA currently has two Volunteer Coordinator positions open - one in SEPT and one in D&N. If you or anyone you know is interested please see more information here.

Hop on down to the Bunny Shop!

Need to fill a basket for the kiddos on your CASA case? Hop on down to the Bunny Shop. It will be open on the weekdays between April 4th and 13th from 8-5 in the Kid’s Closet. You'll find pajamas, books, stuffed animals, activities, blankets, pillowcases, and more for the kids on your cases!

Skate City passes available soon!

We should have new Skate City passes available at the front desk this month. The new passes will not have an expiration. Each certificate will be good for a 2-hour session and skate rentals, as well as up to $7 in snacks! One pass will be needed for each youth. A huge thanks to Skate City Owner Jeff Ingrum for his generosity!
