February 2022: News, Updates, and Opportunities for CASA Volunteers

Letter from the Executive Director

Dear CASA Volunteers,

During February - AKA the Month of Love - I wanted to thank you for your love of children. The heart you have for kids shines through each and every day as you work to create a better future for them. We hope you will join us over Zoom later this month for our Annual Volunteer Impact event where you'll hear about the difference you have made for children over the past twelve months in all four CASA programs.

If you know friends or neighbors who also have a big heart for kids, please make sure they know about our upcoming Volunteer Information Sessions which are listed out below in the event calendar. We would love to help your acquaintances figure out which of our volunteer positions would be the right fit for them.

As always, please reach out to me any time at angelar@casappr.org with questions, concerns, or comments.

Warmly,

Angela

Inclusion Corner: Being intentional in engaging with diverse children

In her article this month, EID Consultant MelindaJoy Mingo talks about a volunteer who made a difference during her childhood in inner city Chicago. She also offers tips on being more intentional with the diverse children on your cases.

Time to think about summer camp!

Registration for overnight and summer camps have opened or will open soon! If you have a youth who would like to attend camp, please apply for MFCF funding and receive approval before registering for camps. CASA partners with YMCA Camps Shady Brook and Jackson, as well as Eagle Lake Camp to cover the full overnight camp cost. Please contact jillc@casappr.org with any questions.

Welcome new CASA staffers!

We are pleased to introduce Carmelita Carrillo (L) as the new D&N Volunteer Coordinator and Amy Marx (R) as Fund Development Administrative Coordinator! Carmelita came to CASA from Fort Carson where she worked toward reintegrating soldiers. Amy made the switch to CASA from USAA after completing her BA in Sociology and seeking out a position with a human services organization that serves children. Welcome Carmelita and Amy!

Check out our Amazon Wish Lists!

The Hanger and Kid’s Closet will be posting requests on Amazon as needs come up. The Hanger’s Wish List is here and Kid’s Closet’s Wish List is here. While items may not always be posted, feel free to share the lists from time to time!

CLOSEOUT: All Bears Must Go

If you've shopped in the Kid's Closet before, you know it's limited on space. There is simply not enough room in there for these giant teddy bears to be comfortable, so if you know a CASA child who would like a giant 53-inch tall teddy bear, please come take one.

CO license plates to support CASA

Colorado CASA and the network of 18 local programs throughout the state are collecting signatures in favor of a group special license plate to promote awareness and to aid in recruitment and retention of CASA volunteers in Colorado.

CASA Volunteer Anniversaries

February must be a popular time to be sworn in because this month, we are celebrating the CASA Volunteer anniversaries of 6 SEPT Facilitators and 28 Advocates! Thank you to all these folks for making a difference for kids!

Skate City passes available soon!

We should have new Skate City passes available at the front desk starting in March. The new passes will not have an expiration. Each certificate will be good for a 2-hour session and skate rentals, as well as up to $7 in snacks! One pass will be needed for each youth. A huge thanks to Skate City Owner Jeff Ingrum for his generosity!
